Started doing some indoboard work a week ago and I am really getting the hang of it. Here is a pic of me pressing two 70lb bells on an indoboard.

whoops, sorry didn't read the whole thing. 70lbs huh. impressive. Have you learned how to jump squat on it yet? Or tried some of those tricks that Coach Davies got in the Extreme book or on his web site?

very impressive. Do you do any tricep isolation work or are your triceps that good just from overhead pressing? |

Thanks a lot guys. I do not do any isolation work for biceps and tricpes. My arm development is just the result of a lof of rows, chins, overhead presses etc.

first off, i will say that i do not buy into the theory behind this type training, but i must admit, if i tried to do that i would give myself 5 hernias! and your physique is lean, rugged and very impressive. so to you from me:MUCH RESPECT!

Mike, my gym doesn't have one of those belts where you can add weight for chinups. Any recommendations for increasing difficulty of chins without adding weight? thanks |

I think that one side of the board is touching the grass, you cheater!<P>
Just kidding. I'd call it "impressive" but that would be a huge understatement. Absolutely incredible. |

Peternf throw a dumbbell between your feet/legs thats added weight for your pull-ups. Or get a backpack from home and shove some plates at the gym and there you go weighted pull-ups.

What happened to good ole fashioned common sense. Get a weight belt. Get a short rope. Run the belt through the rope. Attach a db to the rope. |

I can't wait to see what Machine has to say about this photo!
Mike, I am slightly confused. In another thread with a photo of someone doing a very similar exercise, you said this:
I agree with Machine. doing squats on a swiss ball is dangerous and overfocusing on balance training(not that you are saying that you) do is counter productive. If you want to be a good athlete, then spend the majority of your time working in your specific sport and then focus on strength training that will have the greatest impact.
Also, one legged squats are a much safer alternative then barbell squats on a swiss ball and in my opinion will carry over to sports (especially combat sports) more effectively.
Did you have a change of heart on this balance training stuff? I would really be interested to know what inspired this if you have had a change of opinions.
Great physique... Did you do it all with Kbells?

Okay, I was one of those guys against squatting on the swiss ball; I'm going to speak up in favour (kind of) of this.
First (the kind of part) I really don't feel that this will have any carryover to any sport I can think of. Afterall, how often do you stand on a moving surface while lifting weight over your head? Oh wait, pair's surfing. . .
Second, my big issue with squatting on theh swiss ball (and most people's if I recall correctly) was the risk to benefit ratio.
While squatting with 135lbs on a swiss ball there are a great many things that can go catastrophically wrong. You could slip a foot, the ball could burst, lose balance in any direction etc. If one of those happens you're in deep deep shit since you're really not going to be able to land it safely.
However, on the indo board military pressing some k-bells there's not as much that can go wrong. You could lose your balance, the board could break. However, since you're only 3 inches off the ground anyway it should be a very easy save, plus it should be easy to drop the k-bells in a safe manner.
It's all about the risk:benefit ratio. While I think there could be some (not a huge amount) of benefit to either exercise this one has so little risk it's not a bad idea. The whole swiss ball thing was asking for a broken leg . . .
