Dude you should definitely do some cutting work ASAP or you're going to be one fat mother by the time you get to 220. Unless you're a powerlifter or lineman what is the point of adding "weight" if there is no asthetic value to it.
I started lifting at 5'10" 115 lbs. but by the time I got up to 177 I realized I had no abs and looked like shit! I'm not trying to be mean but I've been training about 2 years just like you so we've probably been through similar problems. I'm also trying to get to 220 by the end of the summer (I'm 202 right now) but I'm a LOT leaner, I'm a LOT better at my sport, and I get a LOT more girls than I would if I had just kept on "bulking" non-stop.
Trust me bro I'm still never satisfied when I look in the mirror but I'm extremely thankfull that I sucked up the ego last year and dropped the fat (I went from 177 down to about 160 and I've built from there).
The last thing I want to do is try to act like one of these know-it-all forum posters but I honestly hope you give my advice some thought.
Good Luck |

How in the hell do you know if the weight he adds is going to be "aesthetic" or not? You gained 62 lbs in 2 years by growing 5 inches and weight training and playing basketball and you were still a skinny-fat dude? How did you manage that?
OP, keep doing what you're doing. Nice job so far. Post back when you reach your goal. |

Just wondering, any ideas for stuff to put in shakes to add calories, just using oats and protein pretty much and don't think its enough.
And ball guy believe me I've spent enough of my life as a skinny runt and never fuckin want to go back. Could'nt give a shit atm if im 20% or 10% as long as I'm a big mofo booyah! |

To the guys who trashed my response it was my honest-to-god opinion. I realize now that I simply have a different perspective since I'm an athlete and a big part of my training success depends on being quick and explosive, so I am sincerely sorry if I offended the OP. I'm often surrounded by other weightlifting athletes so even when we get "fat" we are still generally leaner than the average person. I was honestly trying the help the OP, and my opinion is still the same as I know plenty of amateur and professional bodybuilders and even when they are "bulking" they have fairly visible abs. I personally am also in more of a bulking phase since I'm in the off-season, but I feel that I am doing it the right way and I won't have to drop too much fat to prepare for next season.
I have respect for anyone who takes lifting seriously and I give the OP mad credit for having the guts to actually post some pictures (unlike most of the dirtbags here who hide their shitty physiques behind big talk). I remember when I joined this site and I was too chicken to have any pics on my page, but I decided to suck it up and put my flaws out there so I can at least post here with honesty. No hard feelings bro |

Oh... one more thing OP. I see that you were looking for things to add to your shakes. A couple weeks ago I started adding flax oil (you can get it at most grocery stores) to my shakes and that definitely helped me get over the 200 hump. It won't change the taste of your shakes as much as some of the other oils and it adds a nice 130 calories per tablespoon. |

Did i say i was a pro or even amateur level bodybuilder. You do realise most of the time that these guys aren't hoping to put on 40 pounds in an off-season, as they are doing shows! How am I supposed to get to where I wanna go by constantly bulking and cutting in the same timeframe? And you really think I'm 'fat' cause I got no abs? Mate I don't have abs when I'm 190, and I didn't when I was 150! Anyhoo heres the pictures slightly better quality

All you have to do is ask them to post pictures. Very rarely will the ones criticizing those actually making progress look anywhere near the same level themselves.
There is a reason so few people are walking around with muscles big enough for them to cause a stir when they walk in the room. That reason is largely due to what that guy just posted.
There's a big difference between "Men's Health toning" and the kind of muscle gains many of us are after. |

honestly i think the sooner everyone accepts that the process of building size is ambiguous, the sooner everyone will stop arguein on staying lean in the off season, or bulkin by eating everything, or carb cycling and so on.

A few ideas; milk or juice instead of water, cottage cheese (blends just fine), yogourt, frozen fruit (strawberries, bananas, blueberries), peanut or almond butter, olive oil, macadamia oil (haven't tried it).

The only thing "ambiguous" apparently is the idea that people who actually have the goal of not gaining much size actually think they belong right next to people who are really going for serious gains in muscle mass.
Most of these debates end up coming down to a very basic comprehension problem. Bodybuilding used to be about...gasp...BODYBUILDING. Now, due to gyms going more mainstream, every jackass who manages to get his abs to show yet claims he is trying to stay under 160lbs (at 6'1") thinks we are talking to him when we discuss weight lifting and goals. |
