Big Bad Bench
by Dave Tate
05/25/01

Anyone gone through this routine? I'm planning on starting it Monday and had a few questions about volume and intensity.

Barbell Triceps Extensions to the Chin is an exercise that I had learned from Ian King. The ROM will be reduced (your upper arm will drop as you go into your eccentric) and you will be able use more resistance than going to the forehead. This is will be more exercise specific to your bench pressing goals.

This is how Dave Tate describes Dumbbell Cleans: This exercise is designed to isolate the posterior deltoids and upper back. To begin, grab a pair of dumbbells and sit on the edge of a bench. Start the movement by pulling your shoulder blades up and back while at the same time cleaning the dumbbells up to a 90% flexion of the elbows.

This sounds very familiar to the Cuban Press that Coach John Davies implements into his programs.

Coach Joe DeFranco implements Seated dumbbell ?power cleans?. Is this the same exercise? My educated guess is yes because he follows some of Westside's principles.

I just finished the Big Bad Bench program. My bench increased by 50 pounds (235-285)! I'd like to continue improving my bench, what do you suggest I do next?
