Greg Valentino: The Most Hated Man in Bodybuilding
by Chris Shugart
05/31/02
To normal, untrained people, those who choose to lift weights to get bigger are considered freaks. Why, they say, would anyone put themselves through all that just to get bigger biceps and more defined abs? Are they obsessed? Do they suffer from low self-esteem? To the people who lift weights recreationally, professional bodybuilders are the real freaks. |

That's unbelievable, I actually respect the guy for realizing he is a freak and living with it.
So many people just spend their lives avoiding who they truly are, this man is a true T-man he knows who he is and lives with it. |

The best part's when he talks about going to jail so he has to suddenly go off his cycle and losing all libido, but he doesn't get bitch tits even though he didn't take any anti-es.
He figures it has to do with nipple size so ends his ramble with:
"I have a lot of theories on shit."
That guy's awesome. |

Freak indeed! It may be that he has a body dysmorphic disorder and that is why he made a freak out of himself. In my opinion, he has gone overboard because he does not look good at all and I can't imagine anyone wanting to look as he does. He may benefit from psychiatric care rather than drug treatment. I train with the intent to get "big", not deformed. I aspire to have huge arms such as Lou Ferrigno had in his prime. |

At what point does he say to himself "Gee, my arms are thicker than my waist! Time for some calf raise." |

Since Valentino has been on TV lately ("The Man Whose Arms Exploded" on TLC), let's give this a bump. |

i just watched some of the "man whos arms exploded" on the learning channel.
the entire time they talked about all of the swelling and puss and blood in valentinoes arms, they never did reference synthol. they did talk a bunch about how all the steroids really messed up his arms. im watching still and they havent mentioned synthol.. only STEROIDS.
is this an intentional spotlight on how bad steroids are for your arms (ha!) or are they really just failing to mention that most of that shit in his arms is synthol?
welp, back to the entertainment. |

Exactly. I am amazed by anyone who thinks he is telling the truth about why his arms look like that. |

I am pissed at that footage. Media feeds off of scare tactics and fools like Valentino are all too happy to provide it just for exposure. Between him and Craig Titus, I am beginning to think that even looking like a bodybuilder is now becoming a negative in society. I am only hoping that stigmas like this are only temporary and that I won't be judged by the actions of the dumbest in the group. |

HOLY CRAP.... I am uhmmmm speechless... I just don't know what to say...
Great interview! Enjoyed it. Brought a lot more to the story than just the pictures that make you cast your own judgement.
I remember seeing the Daily Show when they spoofed his arrest and was like WTF? Well, he has definitely accomplished freak status. I think he took it to a new level. Hell he created a whole new category.
Guess I did have something to say... |

So true. Just another example of the stigma that any one that trains have to deal with from the media and the public. Ignorance is sad. Hey may be a 'nice guy' but dumb as a stump.

Let the man do his thing. Nothin' wrong with Gregg. He'll admit he's a mental freak. Haters. |

His "thing" is making everyone who steps in a gym, or chooses to use AAS in a safe and sane manner, look like total assholes by simple proximity.
You use the word "haters" as if there were some sort of jealousy going on; there's not. I won't speak for anyone else, but I think he's a pathetic, uneducated boob and it's a crime that he has any sort of podium at all.
It would have been much better for the world and the gene pool had part of those vomit-inducing diaper sacks resting on his humeri entered his blood-stream and plugged up his heart. |

Agreed. Once "his thing" starts affecting public perception of other bodybuilders unrelated to this jackass, he deserves every ounce of "hatred" he gets. The ones defending this idiot are also usually the ones who no one would ever associate with being a "bodybuilder" just by looking at them so they have no clue of the damage he is causing.
Bodybuilding wasn't exactly accepted to begin with considering the general public likes to think most of us are insane simply because we build our muscles larger than average. He's a fool and the media is all too happy to use that idiot as an example of the rest of us. |

Thankyou.......
He has the mentality that I have to convince almost every one of my clients that most bodybuilders are not. We all have the 'small man syndrome to some extent', but its how we handle it. We can abuse and destroy or harness and build. He chose to abuse and destroy. I just have to shake my head in disgust...

I watched that show and enjoyed it for the most part. Very interesting...
But why can't anyone do a show about users who have used and have had success and have not had any problems? There are TONS out there and that part needs to be covered as well. |
