Are you are hard gainer?
Are you tired of not being able to pack on slabs of muscle?
Do you feel doomed to be skinny?
If so then keep reading....
Chad Waterbury and I are looking for a hardgainer guinea pig for "The Hardgainer Project". If selected for this project Chad will design the training program, and I will design the nutritional and supplementation program that will get you out of your "skinny slump". Plus you will get featured in a T-Nation article.
The catch is...we're only picking ONE guy. So if you think you should be the one picked for the HG Project tell us why in a post below or PM me.
Im going to nominate my brother, hes 19 and since 17 hes been 6ft at 140 pounds, we joined the gym last year and we did WS4SB TBT ABBH BBB i grew a shit load, yet hes the same weight a year later. Hes very dedicated and busts his balls alot harder then i do but gets no gains at all.
This will be extremely interesting. And whoever gets picked will be very lucky to have a program, both nutritional and training, designed for them by very sought out coaches.

I would love to have the opportunity to do this. I've using workout programs from T-Nation, especially Chad's stuff, for the last 1.5 years. And despite my efforts to try to consume 3000+ calories a day, I have not gained more than 5 pounds. My body fat has stayed between 8-10%, according to caliber measurements (4-site).
Current stats:
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 160lbs
Body Fat: 8-10%
I would love to be at 175lbs at the same body fat. Please help me gain weight.

im 5'7 160 and have been stuck at that weight for quite some time now. ive been naturally lean because i was a track athlete(short sprinter), but decided to forego the sport this year to concentrate on studies in college.
ive been this weight for about 2 years now and ive eaten my fair share of calories and busted my ass off in the gym, and the only thing that has went up are my totals on the lifts, but not my bodweight (though a good thing, i would still like to see an increase in size and weight for vanity purposes)
ive always had that dream to be that big muscular guy that when in public, gets stares and whispers. ive always been a confident kind of guy and considered myself the total package besides lacking one thing that I have always dreamed to have which would be a nice solid muscular physique. I want to lift big weights and look like i do too. I feel it would command more respect from the guys since i feel i don't get that a lot due to my size.
I'm an animal in personality and i feel its about time that i become an animal in the physical sense as well.
I am not 100% on everyone's definition of hardgainer (dependent on bodytype? etc.), but since it's hard for me to gain anything, then I will throw my hat into the ring.
First off, a little about me. I am 22 years old and have been training for four years now (reading this site for 3). I was what one would call around here a FFB, and quite heavy for most of my childhood until I began lifting seriously.
Since, I have tried relentlessly to reshape myself, and went from 215 lbs fat slob to 145lbs and malnourished looking in one year. For the past three I have been reading everything on this site I could get my hands on, and attempting to apply it.
The results of my efforts have been shockingly poor in my opinion. After regaining a good amount of weight during a 2 year bulk (up to 190 lbs), and attempting to remove some of the fat gained, I appear to have gained little in the way of good mass in the past few years of training.
My lifts are probably what one would expect in newbie gains, and most here seem to accomplish the same in about 6-8 months of good training. Currently, I am about 165-170 lbs at 5' 10", with probably a good 12-13%bf. This would translate into a 10lb lean gain in 3 years!
I am willing to follow any program to the letter, and do whatever it takes to see a about 10% of my bodyweight in lean mass gains over the course of the next year. This is already my goal, whether it is right for this program or not is your decision.
I know not why my performance has been so lackluster, but am desperate to learn from anyone with advice to give, and I thought this might be the perfect opportunity.

Sure it's impressive to pack muscle on a hardgainer, but can you do it with somebody who doesn't have all day to lift? I think the two of you should set higher goals.
I'm 22 years old, married with two kids, I work 45 hours a week and go to school for 3 hours a week.
I'm 5'7 162 and haven't been able to gain more than 5 lbs. My body comp changed a lot in the first year of training, but for some reason, despite eating a ton of junk, the weight isn't moving.
I'm extremely motivated, the question is how confident are you two?

When do you think you'll pick someone? And when you do, will this be a project where we get to follow the subject's progress in a thread, or will it be an article showing the before and after pics and his training/nutrition/supplement plan?

We'll pick someone this weekend. Then they'll be article outlining the plans that Chad and I put together. There definitely is the potential to do a follow up article.
Sign me up for this as I would consider myself the ultimate hard gainer. I'm 25, 5'7" and about 145 pounds and have a 7% body fat. In high school (7 yrs ago) I wrestled at 135 and I think I could still make that weight. I've been on Berardi's PN for almost 6 months now (80% compliant) with only moderate progress.
I also have kept really good records of my workouts for the past 9 months so we won't be starting for scratch. Thing is, I start my 3rd year med school rotations in the summer so I'll be crunched for time but you'll have no shortage of commitment from me. There's a small gym here in the school and I have a dedicated wife to help with the meal planning.
With all the stuff going on at this point of my med school career, I think we'll have an interesting story.
I'm currently 22 years old weighing in at around 195 at about 6'1. Personally, I don't believe there is such a thing as a hard gainer. I hang around guys who are almost twice my sizes and can throw up twice as much weight, if not more. After being around this crowd and thinking that I eat more than them and train harder than them, all I'm left with is: I must be a hard gainer. Honestly, I refuse to believe this.
I think it's a matter of finding the right program along with the right diet. I think something must be wrong with my regimen, and I think claiming "well, I'm a hard gainer so I can't really pack on muscle and size" is a horrible excuse.
About ten months ago I lost thirty pounds due to a serious 3 part leg break during a rugby game. I've gotten back to 190, but I also want to prove to myself that I can bulk and build an impressive physique after such a set back. As far as my legs go, they're both fully recovered and I'm able to engage in full ROM with weight without any problems.
I want to take this challenge and motivate all those out there that hard gainers don't exist and injuries can be overcome, it's just a matter of will power, dedication, and the tools offered by strength coaches such as yourselves.

Hi, I'm interested in the Hardgainer program. I'm 5'6" 235 and I've ONLY put on 120 pounds since I started lifting weights 17 years ago. It's only a 7 pound per year gain when you average out the numbers. I feel like such a failure, can you help. ;)

Im currently 511 186 and completely stuck. I keep my diet clean but wat a TON of food.
I am such a hard gainer that i eat almost 1/3 a jar of peanut butter/2scoop of protein powder/oatmeal/milk right before i go to bed for the last year and i have barley put on weight.
I will use your routine religiously as well as stick as close as i can to the diet. (college student so funds arnt unlimited, but i think thats a real world situation) Anyways hope i fit the bill!

How are you going to make sure that they're going to stick it through and not lose interest six weeks in and walk away?
30 years old
6 feet tall
180-185 lbs
10-14% body fat
Been training 2 years now, used most of the programs on t-mag, some with betther results than others.
I am a big believer in chad's philosophies with regards to multiple training sessions per body part per week. I dont want to gain slabs of muscle and be a big unathletic piece of shit. I also like the way Mike lays things out, do this, do that, not complicated but effective.
I want to get bigger but also become more explosive and be able to compete better at the sports I like to play.
I work M-F, 8-5 so I can do 2 a day training at least 4 times a week and will complete all that is asked of me.
I would love to work with the 2 of you guys as I agree with your methodologies and I know you will be happy with the results we achieve.
So lets get this going guys. Thanks for the opportunity to be involved in this project.

Chad and I aren't baby sitters so no we are going to enforce compliance. If having two professional personalize a training and nutrition plan for you AND having your story is featured on T-Nation isn't enough to keep you going I'm not sure what is going to help.

How about forming a posse of 'Hardgainer Police' made up entirely of 'easy gainers' or IFBB pros and appointing Joe Weider as Sheriff and Ben Weider as the Hangman to make sure the 'chosen one' sticks to the program?
My name is Joshua and I'm a hardgainer. I want to change my life, I need to get this area of my life handeled.
I've been called anorexical by a couple of girls, some ladies say to me to start eating, what they do not know is that I eat a lot already. Yes, I calculated it.
I have good strength and an effective CNS. Paralell bar-dips with 130 pounds and pull-ups with 70 pounds on the belt, but that hardly changes the fact that my shoulders are small and my arms are 14.5 inches.
I maxed out 225 on deadlift the first day I did it and my back looks like a LCD-monitor. FLAT and QUADRANT.
I'm taking a semster off from school now and going to concentrate a lot on the training. I want to reach good results and stop all the laughs. This hurts, inside. Really.
I'm willing to keep a diary of every day of this "challenge". Report everything, how I felt during workout, how my recovery days are. Everything.
I'm willing to put 10000% into this. I've faith in you guys and only that might add 10 pounds to my frame.
A picture says more than a thousands of words. Accurate measurments of BF% and other stats can be taken any time on your requests.
I'm a hardgainer and I'm willing to change it. Thank you.
