So, I've been training "on and off" for about 3.5 years, mostly off. I went from 150lbs to 180, down to 150 again, now I'm at 160. I'm been training steady for about two or three months now. I'm just having a few problems, I'm not spending enough time in the gym, sounds simple... I know. But, realistically, so many people recommend 5x5, 10x10, 8x3, 6x4, or whatever, I would do way over that. I don't want to be detrimental to my own cause. Also, a few areas just don't seem to be progressing. I've been lurking for awhile, so if your reply is going to include "Get teh hell in duh gymm and train!", I'd rather not hear it. I really appreciate any helpful advice, by all means. Rather than further boring you, I'll post what I've been doing upon request. Thanks.

What did you do to get from 150 to 180?

Why not do that again?

Did you intend to ask a question, because I don't see one.

I get the impression that you suffer from paralysis by analysis. If this is the case, choose one of the common entry-level training programs and get started. Just review the other threads in this forum for recommendations. It probably doesn't matter which program you choose as long as you don't do something retarded. The key is to pick and and follow it consistently. Sitting on your ass isn't going to get you anywhere.

I'd rather not do that again because it was mostly fat. That's why I went back down to 150 or so.

Paralysis by analysis, lol, nice. I apologize, I did intend to imply a general question of what next? I've been consistent for nearly three months, I'm simply asking how much should I be doing, before it becomes counterproductive.

That was likely a function of your diet.

With regards to how much you should be doing, that really depends on how your body responds.

I think it was an atrocious diet and very poor training habits. Some of what I'm getting at is I'm doing X, how much more of X should I do, or should I switch to Y(Sorry for the variables)?

As long as you're making progress, stick with X. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Like I said at first "a few areas just don't seem to be progressing." It's not broken, but it's definitely not efficient. Like, the past 4 or 5 workouts I haven't progressed at all in my squats(5x5). Should I add more 'ancillary' work, more sets with lower weight? Suggestions are all I'm looking for.
