100kg x20 today. Very easy and fast reps. Gonna keep bumping it up, should hit 140 x20 in 4 or 5 weeks.

Looking forward to it hanley!

Still hanging in here!

Squatting hard this summer has made my legs look like this:

http://www.kraftsport.no/...ss/CIMG0539.JPG

I'm to the right. The legs was big beforehand as well.

Best so far for me:

167.5kgx20
172.5kgx19
175kgx16
180kgx7

So, 167.5kgx20 is my result so far.

But this challenge will be won by the great lifter who did 17 reps at 180kg or was it 185kg in his very first attempt, as long as he puts his mind to it.

Unless... an even stronger lifter surfaces...

But about winning... this challenge is not really about lifting the biggest amount of weight possible, of course that is cool, but the point is to challenge yourself, push yourself to the limits, be it 100kg x 20 or 200kg x 20 !!! The point is to put in the effort! :D

Modi: Tremendous effort! In the end, you realize how powerful the God of Squat is!

I do not know who wrote this, but anyway, here goes:

As I approached the throne of the great God Squat
My legs began to tremble and my face grew hot
I knew he was a difficult God to please
And that before him all must bend their knees

I quivered and I shook as I stood before the throne
For by his mighty power many weak legs had grown
His penetrating gaze was almost more than I could bear
So I bowed my head in a brief and silent prayer

The bar in his hands held many a blackened plate
Poised as if to crush me with their awesome weight
Slowly I approached as if this act would be my last
In my head I saw visions of memories from the past

As scenes from my life flashed within my mind
I realized that this God was neither benevolent nor kind
His purpose was to torture and inflict terrible pain
His excuse was that without these, there would be no gain

As the great God Squat placed the bar upon my back
My muscles began to twitch and my joints began to crack
"Bow down before me!" he screamed inside my head
As he laid his hand upon me I wished that I was dead

I screamed and cursed and pushed with all my might
Until my heart was pounding and my face turned white
My head was throbbing as stars burst inside my skull
My vision gew dimmer and my senses began to dull

No longer could I stand to bear this evil abuse
As slippery with sweat my grip began to loose
The bar refused to budge no matter how I tried
As I plunged to the depths and in agony I cried

As I staggered away from within his clutching grasp
My head was reeling and my breath came in a gasp
The heaving of my stomach could no longer be restrained
As I spewed upon the ground the contents that remained

Little did I realize that he hadn't finished with me yet
As I gazed into his eyes he beckoned me for another set
It was there upon the floor that I knew at once within
That never again would I be able to live a life of sin !

I can't believe you've only done 180 x7.

I did 160 x12, second set only got 11. Then 2 weeks later did 180 x5.

Thanks Stallion!

Honestly, I didn't expect it to be as hard as it was. I did 300x20 pretty easily two weeks ago. So, I figured 315x20 (or 22) would be hard, but still not as hard as it was today. I'm not sure if the extra week off was the problem, or if working up to heavy sets of 5 off the box hurt me the most. Last time I worked up to a heavy single before the 20 reps, so maybe the sets of 5 did me in today.

Next week I will work up to a heavy triple off the 13" box, then back off the weight for a couple more triples, and finish with a set of 20 at 330lbs (150kg)...if all goes well.

By the way, my legs are still jello right now.

I am leaving the 20-rep challenge for now.

The final result for me is 167.5kg x 20.

I was close at 172.5kg with 19 reps, and I also did 16 reps with 175kg, and could probably have gotten 18 if I went to absolute failure, and maybe 20 reps in a few more sessions, but I think I have been doing this long enough now, and I feel it is time to focus on 1RM strength.

Repping a lot haven't helped the 1RM strength much I feel, although it has given some more size in my legs. I have also experienced what it is like to go to concentric failure on high reps in the squat. It is an experience I highly recommend!

So I really hope that someone will beat my numbers!

20 rep squat is hell. Great work. If done correctly vomiting may follow.

arnoud verschoor: I'm doing a mini-smolov cycle for the squat, but at the moment my lower back is very tired from a lot of heavy squatting, so I think I have to take a few days off from squatting!

Sounds like a good reason to start squatting again.

Why no squat just because you dead ?

My dead was stalled until I put alot more work into my squat, leg strength is critical in deading.

20 rep deadlifts seems silly to me, youd be asking for an injury more so than 20 rep squats, just because of the movement of the lower back.

I second the no belts, belts should be used on 1RM, but I wouldent use them for most workouts.

I disagree with the no spotter, why not have a spotter in any lift ? As long as they know what they are doing and don't touch you till you groan "spot".

I think the rules in the original post was updated to allow a spotter. Safety comes first.

So everybody left the challenge, huh? I've done 12 reps of 180kg, and going to do 20 reps someday when I am strong enough, but sticking to low reps for the time being, trying to increase 1RM. I found high-reps did about nothing for my 1RM strength, lol, but I got more mental toughness from it and proved to myself that I could do it. That was about it. :) But still my 167.5x20 stands as the best in this thread as noone has done a set of 20 reps better than this yet.

Noone up to beat a norwegian hobby-lifter like me?

So are you yankies still up for the task?

Today I did No belt SQUAT 180kg/396.5lbs x 18 @ 105.5kg/232.4lbs BW

I'll nail 20 reps anytime soon. I've been training for 9 years, and there's been a lot of squat sessions leading up to this. Squatting is great! Squatting is life!

PS: I know there are A LOT stronger lifters than me out there. What I would like to see is some natural lifter at my bodyweight or lower outlift me at the same percentrange of 1rm. 180kg/396.5lbs for me is 84.5% of my 1RM which is 213kg/469lbs.

See first post for rules for this competition.

Cheers from Norway!

tried to do 20 rep squats today, it was pretty brutal, not for the feint of heart. and before this I atemped a 1rm the day before.

atg, no belt, no spotter.

50kg x6
80kg x6
100kg x4
110kg x10
100kg x20

could've got another rep or two, I am gonna try to add 5kg each time and see where it takes be. that said, it was still hard, got out of breath on rep 9-10 and my arms went numb on rep 12

Thanks for the nice comments. After doing some low rep work, I went back to high reps a while ago, and the final result is ready:

180kg/396lbs beltless SQUAT x 20 reps @ 105.9kg/233.3lbs BW.

Now it is back to low reps for me, before I will do even more weight on 20 reps in the future. I am very happy now. I've worked very hard to achive this goal.

Thank you to everyone that has given their input to my lifting, I read and truly appreciate every comment!

Well done Lindow for talking the talk and walking the walk. It is the first step, and not everyone can even do that! :) When I started squatting 9 years ago, I could not even do a single at 100kg! Think of that! So with passion through the years, you to can end up with big weights!

thank you stallion. today when I squated 3-4 days later after doing snatches I got 110kg x2, could probably have gotten 5, but still, I went down 5+ reps from one round of 20 reppers, my recovery for high rep work is shit lol. does it take a long time to get used to this stuff? gonna try squating again on thursday / friday

great lift stallion. I'm not in your league yet, so far 305lbsx20 easy is my best, but i've been going up 10 lbs. a week pretty steadily. Maybe i'll revive this thread in a year or so, lol.
